They removed the break clause from my contract
To say that Foxton's employee's are pushy is an understatement. I was receieving several calls a day pushing me to sign a a contract (that they kept changing).
I'd say, give me 24 hours to read and sign, 2 hours later they woudl be on the phone to me, then 2 hours later and so on.
Any, this guy Hywel Kennedy from the Richmond branch looked me in the eye and said, here is a standard contract, it's all standard stuff nothing out of the ordinary and said it was the same contract that they give to all of their tennants.
I read it anyway and just ignored all of his phone calls that day while i read it.
Without my agreement he had increased the term of the contract from 12 months to 18 months and removed the break clause!!
You should have seen his face when i pulled him up on this. The lying little **** tried to stitch me up.
He very quickly pasted the break clause back in and returned the term back to 12 months.
Unfotunatly they are notto be trusted, you must read the contract before you sign despite all of the tactics that they will employ in order to scare you into signing.
Tell them that you are definatly going to sign but that you must read it first, it's just a formality.
They will say, well it's a popular property and we have several other interested people. That's a lie so just stick to your guns.
They also cocked up my rent payments forthe first month, first if telling me that they did not accept standing orders and then making me sign and authorised card payment form to authorise them to take the rent by card payment each month. weird i thought, but did it anyway.
The next month i got a call from a very, very rude Foxtons employee demanding to know where the oney way. I explained what they had instructed me to do and they denied it all. They also went ion to tell the Landlady that i was bengn difficult and this scared her. She became border line abusive towards me because she had been convinced that i mean.
I paid my rentand set u a standing order which is exactly what i told them i wanted to do in the first place and all is now well but what a stupid situation to be in and all thanks to Foxtons being a bunch of idiots.
I'm glad they are about to go bust, they are corrupt, self serving and imoral. Good ridence.

They have no interest in a break clause....
....even though break clauses are often good things for both landlord and tenant. But - Foxtons loses commission if one is exercised. They don't look after their clients' interests, just their own They lie to get:
- Longer leases (so landlords fork over more money up front which is not legally recoverable if a tenant leaves early).
-Break clauses removed
- anything else they can get away with
I offered on a flat and the
I offered on a flat and the landlord accepted our offer. The agent then tried to get me to sign a contract! Jesus, Mary and Joespeh it hought. Well, I wasn't having any of that, I thanked him for his time and marched out of the door, they certainly won't be making me sign a contract.
So why did you offer then?
Sarcasm.
Did that make you happy?
Same sort of problem
I offered on a lovely new property in Canary Wharfs Pan Pensinsula, it was accepted and I was so happy. Then 3 weeks later when we went to get the keys from Foxtons, I asked if they could furnish it with all beech coloured stuff from Ikea and change the washing machine to a washer/dryer as there was a ban on people hanging clothes over the balcony which I didn't get told by Foxtons!!!
I didn't sign the contract and instead rented a caraven in Wales... can't fool me you Foxtons mugs!
idiot
Locked into a long lease
I too have been bitten by Foxtons, and think they are the scumbags of the rental property market. They pushed us into a longer lease than we were initially willing to accept, and because they knew we didn't have much time to find a place they took advantage of us. Now we are miserable in our new flat, and can't move for another 10 months til our break clause comes up.
They are shifty, we should have listened to our instincts. They looked astonished when we didn't accept a free drink in their ridiculous offices, like a free drink is the height of generosity and 'nice guy behaviour'. What wierdos - 'ohmigod a free drink - wow I will sign anything!'
Listen to your instincts and never use them again.
