I found a flat I liked through F*ckstons. Agreed the price via the agent. They sent me all the forms, I transferred the deposit (6 weeks rent + admin). The next business day, the guy simply told me 'sorry the landlord decided to sell instead, let's see some other properties'. He then proceeded to show me a bunch of horrible flats in the hope that as I was hooked with the deposit, I would just take one of them to make my life easier. I told him I wanted my money back and it took them a full 8 working days to pay me back.
They use this technique to get you on the books. Given it's a lot of money, you are less likely to be able to make an offer on something else via another agent in the meantime.

Let me guess
The guy acted all sorry the landlord had 'changed their mind' right? In reality they probably never agreed the price with the landlord, who just wanted to sell the thing. They just thought they had a better chance of convincing the landlord if they had a signed contract and your money!!!
F*ckstons is the right name of these scammers
this is another stupid
this is another stupid comment.
Foxtons will value a property if agreed with the vedor/landlord.
They vendor/landlord has to agree to the price, then sign terms and conditions before Foxtons can market the property for either lettings or sales.
It would be a waste of resources to do this any other way.
Scammers? er, no. You're an idiot.
er, were you born
er, were you born yesterday?!
this is the same with MOST estate agents!! if the prop goes, ofCOURSE they want to keep your business by showing you other properties they have on their books. Thats basic business sense?!
It is not their fault the landlord changed their mind and decided to sell. Thats landlords all over. They're always changing their plans.
I bought a bed over the phone when i was moving into a flat, they said it was instock, then called me the next working day to say it wasnt in stock. they offered me others, and i didnt want those, so asked for a refund and it took 7 working days to get my money back. This was through 'dreams'. On occasion it will take up to 7/8 working days to get your money back. Even your bank would be able to tell you that.
They want your business, but they probably also felt obliged to help you as the landlord had changed their plans.
Perhaps you should use your brain?
It's not Foxtons at fault here.
