Would like to hear from anyone who has paid the commission up front and not got it back when tenant left early

Hi there,

I would like to hear from anyone who has or has not received any commission paid upfront if the tenant has left early. I am sorry but won't read or respond to messages from visitors.

 Thanks

Yes, this has happened to me

Yes, this has happened to me - they convinced me to let the tenant out of their lease early 'for family related reasons' after 4 months of the 12. We've just gone through the accounts and Foxtons have not paid back any of this.

Yes this has just happened to me

My tenants have just left - one of them lost his job and had to go back to France and the other one could not afford the rent on his own.  Foxtons have kept the commission for the whole year even though the tenants only stayed for 6 months.  They said that I may get the commission back if i re-let through them.

Is there anything I can do?

I just got my money back

I got my husband to go into the office and ask for it back - we were encouraged by Foxtons to end the lease early because my tenant wanted to leave, but of course that meant Foxtons charged their extortionate fees again for check in/check out (apparently checking your inventory is not included in MAKING your inventory, you only pay to have the list ,not to see if anything is still there from the list, wonder exactly what the 'management' we pay for does include). They charged the year's commission for the new tenant in advance but did not in any way attempt to repay the commission for the previous tenant for two and a half months. The day we walked in and asked for it, we were told it had been "credited yesterday", ie the day before. After 2.5 months. I think they actually thought they would get away with keeping it.

I got my money back, it

I got my money back, it took 5 or 6 phone calls mind, try harder you lard arsed nincompoop.

Comission back when a tenant has left early

Right ok, you dont want to pay renewal fees but you still want comission back if a tenant leaves early! You cant have it both ways im afraid This is exactly what everyone has forgotton about. Its fair on both sides. If a tenant leaves early, the agent will provide you with a refund. If a tenant renews, they are due a renewal fee. Fairs fair Amazing really, landlords are happy when their mortgage is being paid for by tenants found by an agency, but basically dont want to pay for the privilage. Greedy landlords is definately part of the problem
