Blame it on the F word...

As an estate agent, and having always disliked the F word, I recently had my property valued by 3 local agents and made sure that one of them was Foxtons. The property is worth just over 250k, which was what they both quoted me or very close to (give or take 2-3 k)

When the Foxtons chap arrived (late), he walked around and asked me how much I would like to market the property for. When I said to him that I didn't know, and that I thought that he could tell me a value he laughed stating that he relied on what his customers wanted. I asked him to market the (1 bed flat in SW London) at £350,000. 100k over its value. He agreed and produced a contract stating that he would charge me 3% sole agency. I then asked him if a surveyor would pass the sale if it came to that point to which he replied: ''I can get anything passed bruv."

Not amused. I politely told him that I would think about it and call him in the afternoon. An hour laterm he knocked at my door again to ask me to sign his contract. I advised him that I had signed with their main rival in the area to which he replied that I had wasted his time.

Talk about a sore loser. The point here being, is that they are partly responsible for the current state of the London property market.

Thanks Foxtons, we owe you for that.

this is silly. you did

this is silly.

you did waste his time. you had no intention of using foxtons.

the office i worked with didnt over value. because they knew they couldnt achieve that sale.

some of our valuers would refuse to go out to a property if they were looking for a price and the description was nowhere near it.

how are they partly responsible for the property market? your property went through anoher agent. so it had no affect on the market. much like other circumstances

No, THIS is silly

I love how Foxtons agents on here are so obviously poorly educated spivs who can barely type a sentence. They protest their innocence, their virtue and lack of deceit but the overwhelming amount of evidence against them must make the little dears feel so unloved in this cold, cruel world.'But we was only tryin to make some money!' they cry, disconsolately. 'We ain't bad, you is all bad! An if you don't stop complainin bout our [complete lack of ethics or business standards] shid n stuff then we gonna slag off yor mums 4 real.'

Having worked at Foxtons

Having worked at Foxtons myself and now moved on to another agency purely out of being offered a better salary for less working hours I feel I can give quite an objective view on your comments above, as although I have no allegiance to them I do have an insight into how they work-which is not all that dissimilar to most agencies. Like any large company they are  more accountable to public perception than smaller companies which may be able to get away with unprofessionalism as it is not big news-so being the largest company of a fairly unpopular industry one should expect to get alot of stick. An Estate agents main role is to get the highest price they can for their client (something I was taught at Foxtons) which alot of people do forget , until they indeed come to sell-but in this day in age is there a huge amount of difference among the agents in their marketing etc so usually the best way to stand out is to try give the highest valuation. I can assure you having valued lots of properties myself-the amount of instructions I have lost as the client said " the other agent thought they could get more money" is astounding-so we as sellers are not as innocent as we would suggest. Going back to your points.....1) yes they do try and get the instruction at any price, and so do my current agency-that is how we get our business and don't call me a dishonest freak we live in a capitalist world. If it is ridiculous then obviously we will advise the client based on the feedback as if a client states that there expectations are at a higher level than what the market will achieve-sometimes the only way they can see that their property is overvalued without the estate agent telling them direct and risk being hurried out the door-is to take the property on at the high price and advise their client with feedback and tell them the market is not prepared to pay that price but at least we have given it a go with (usually) your biggest asset. 2) I find it very unlikely that any estate agent would call one of their clients 'bruv,' for all their faults I don't think a Foxtons valuer in this day and age when they are so open to public scrutiny would be so foolish-but i will hold my hands up if i am wrong- if they did I would be extremely interested if you can tell me who it was and in which office as I still keep in contact with alot of friends who still work there and would like to give them a huge amount of stick. 3) Their contract is a standard contract that is  printed at their HQ in Chiswick and categorically will not say 3% for sole agency-but in fact for multi agency-so i'm sorry but i believe you may have made a mistake here. 4) Finally, labelling yourself the honest estate agent, and being an estate agent yourself it does seem that you write with a vested interest of slagging off your competition-i don't blame you-we are all competition, that is not me belittling you-but questioning your objectivity-it's like asking a Liverpool fan what they think of Man Utd. If indeed, you are an honest estate agent, I wish you all the best, but all the honest people I know wouldn't deliberateley invite someone round and set them up on a lost cause-would you have indeed written anything on this blog if the valuer had been on time, been extremely courteous, advised you that they felt your expectations were high and generally came across as a nice chap-i think we all know the answer, as those sort of websites don't generally exist except on the companies own customer feedback sections, obviously!!;). I assure anyone who reads this that i am no longer an employee for the company and have no allegiance- they served their purpose for me and yes they do have some tits working for them but so does everywhere but generally not at manage ment level where they are so in the public eye-but having read the comment above in block capitals it does somewhat downgrade and insult most peoples fair comments/complaints on this web albeit a fairly one sided site. To label all their staff poorly educated spivs is a little bit silly and not a credit to your 'i presume' well educated background as most of the educated people I know really wouldn't bother themselves to have such vicious opinions about a company they can quite easily get through life without ever really having any dealings with, and most would prefer to expand their minds on other websites-but i'm sure you have your reasons. Thanks for your time

This happened to me

They ARE a bunch of cowboys and reading the comments in the 'dossier' above confirms just that. Springing to the defence of them will not help your self-respect issues and I sincerely hope that the incompetent idiot has left.
