Looking back at it objectively
Submitted by visitor on Thu, 21/05/2009 - 05:26.I was hired by Foxtons as a short let negotiator in early 2007.
Like most 22 year olds going for thier first "proper" job, I wanted to make some cash as quickly as possible, and advance up the ladder.
Foxton's organisation was very impressive, and I was pretty much taken in by thier promises of high commissions and quick advancement.
One thing I remember is that they made it perfectly plain from the beginning that they would stop at nothing to reach their targets, and post good results.
I think that they are a business that has a clear ideology: "the law of the jungle"; and they pursue that ruthlessly. It was like working for the SS.
They make no apologies for this, and any person with any sense knows this when they start working for them.
As for the dodgy practices, you can only really blame the individual agents, they choose to do those things.
The management create a high pressure atmosphere where it can occur, but they can't be held responsible.
I had a really bad experience working for them, very similar to most of the posts here - but I don't winge about it.
I put it on the experience ledger and moved on.
I think that the things I saw/did there will stand me in good stead later in life, when I need to deal with estate agents and my own cash is on the line.
Anyway, that's my two cents
